Based on the carpet and style i m assuming is been there for at least 30 years if not longer.

It was much worse in the traffic lanes. I took some pictures but i have not downloaded them yet. However not all dirt piles indicate a serious problem. If more appears in a few days it likely.

I have these tiny mounds of soil popping up in my lawn. Anyway under the padding there are a lot of little brown. Little dirt piles under carpet padding. It seems this black pile is alive with these litttle bugs see photo that keep coming back.

I am having a similar problem. However if the dirt appears to be coming out from within the window frame or from behind the baseboard you re likely looking at something more. The appearance of mysterious dirt piles in the yard confounds and frustrates even the most knowledgeable home gardener. I m in the process of tearing out some old nasty carpet from my house.

I pulled up 1300 ft of carpet and padding over plywood last week and there was a tremendous amount of something like sand underneath the yellow foam padding. They look too small to be from an animal and there is no sign of digging. One way to help determine whether the sawdust is caused by an active insect infestation is to sweep or vacuum it up. I have never run into this before at least not this bad.
